Introduction

Cinématic Architecture Tokyo (aka CAT) has been active since 2009 and is a non-profit collective seeking new expressions and urban and community design by integrating architecture with film as well as urbanism, art and literature. They brought an academic theory called Cinématic Architecture from the United Kingdom and referred to the study of cultural representation which was developed in Japanese academic institutions as well. The members are architects, filmmakers, artists and designers and they idealise the concept as the sparkle of inspiration generated by the impetus of co-working in admixture and diversity with different professions and areas. CAT has been developing the idea through experimental workshops, studies practical events, etc having people from many nationalities and different areas of specialities. The CAT’s events are open to everyone regardless of their expertise, skill set and experiences.
